“If only I had a dad…”

Abandoned by his father as a small child, Rick Amitin survived a heartbreaking relationship with his mom and endured three stepfathers before he was nine years old. At fifteen, he set out on his own, traveling the world, searching for his dad, and finding it impossible to live happily without one. One misguided decision and painful consequence after another, Rick made his way through the military and answered the calling to ministry. He lifted people across the country and around the world while the wound of fatherlessness wreaked havoc on his relationships and pursuits, making him grapple with his lack of identity and sense of worth at every turn…that is, until his grand boy dropped out of heaven and into his arms and catalyzed his journey of healing.

In If Only I Had a Dad, Rick’s raw-polish approach to sharing his story and hard-earned wisdom will help other fatherless men and women to

· Identify the True Cause of All the Messy Dysfunction

· Discover the Power on the Other Side of the Pain

· Become the Whole Person They Never Thought Possible

If you have been searching for an answer to your father hunger, wanting the pain to stop, this book is for you.

Turn your Wandering into Wonder
and Your Longing into Love.

IF ONLY I HAD A DAD FINDING FREEDOM FROM FATHERLESSNESS eBook Rick Amitin

Waves of guilt for not appreciating my dad the way I should have growing up hit me hard as I read this memoir. It is written in an honest and open format about the importance of having a father present in our lives.

The author shared his trials and lifelong quest for a father figure, honestly sharing what price had to be paid to get to where he is now. The beauty of this message is that love of another was the path to healing and enlightenment. Truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction, it can also be more powerful. I was fortunate to have an amazing father participating in my life daily as a young woman and I was fortunate to see my father this week. He lives a thousand miles away from me. Let's just say I hugged him harder than normal. If you are someone who has not had this special relationship in your life, please consider reading this story. It isn't just about struggle, but the way out to healing and having the life you deserve. It was an honor to read this brave account of the search for meaning to our own worth in an imperfect world.

IF ONLY I HAD A DAD FINDING FREEDOM FROM FATHERLESSNESS eBook Rick Amitin Reviews

This book spoke to me. It opened my eyes to the need of fathers and how important it is that I affirm and value my children.
Well written and thought out.
This book had me transfixed from page one. The raw honesty is refreshing. I found myself both smiling and in tears as I traveled with Rick through his journey of spiritual enlightenment and healing. More importantly, this effort is a powerful learning tool. I learned both compassion and understanding of what a fatherless child experiences. How that loss shapes our thinking as well as our self esteem. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is searching for understanding in this area. I look forward to further contributions from this author.
A book full of pain, bit with a positive message that can't be denied. This extremely well-written book is for anyone who has been in a dysfunctional family - which of course is 99% of the population. I love how Rick's writing brings you into his life and shows how a spiritual awakening can transform anyone positively and improve their self-worth. A must read.
When I started to read this amazing true story, you could relate to Rick with a dysfunctional family no dad in his life. He always had hope that he would have a relationship with his dad. Rick put his feelings in this story it was sad, and the way he loved his grandson was so beautiful. Read Rick’s journey of his life you won’t be able to put your kindle or book down. Rick also wrote beautiful poetry in the book that you will fall in love with so breathtaking.
Very well written book. I am glad I finished it today only so I could write my review. The thing I really liked was his transparency showing his human side on a life that he fought hard for. The author looked hard for answers, made mistakes along the way like we all do and in the end he found the path the was perfect for him. Nearing the end of the book every question I had was answered and forgiveness and love was prevalent. It had me search deep inside for the hole I have been trying to fulfill my whole life. This book showed me the importance a Dad has in a child's life. I'm glad that God gave Rick Amitin his grandson to show him not only how to love but to be loved back. I'm glad every chapter and every sentence had meaning and gave me much to ponder every time I read a page or two. I'm glad it was forgiveness and love that brings about all good things and I can see how even though we think we are messy, God's love is always there for us. Through much pain at times we learn. I know that has been my experience, but I can see as well that it is not always an overnight answer. There is a time for all things under the sun. And I can say I found goodness , love, perseverance, and endurance reading this marvelous book.
I may have a slanted view of self-help books. The ones I've read are usually full of lab-tested proprietary buzz words designed to impress and motivate you into thinking you now hold the secret to transforming your life. I contend that vocabulary will not save the broken-hearted.

So I was really pleased to find this book full of plain, earnest speaking. It's a very quick read - not more than a couple of hours - and nowhere in here is an easy ten-step program to 'discovering your authentic life'. Which is as it should be, because healing dysfunction and regrowing your self-worth is a long, hard, rocky road, with setbacks at every turn. That quest is exactly what the author has chronicled here - a decades-long journey through one crucible after another - and I am so glad to have a book that does not undersell the tremendously hard work involved in trying to change the story you have been told about yourself.

You should know that the premise of this work rests on having faith in a higher power, though there is plenty of critique of the religious institutions that we often rely on to help us make those spiritual connections. (Confirmed atheists may want to skip this one.) And the author's decision not to name names outside his own immediate family members can make for a slightly muddled read in a few places. But it is just a tremendous treat to watch these two stories unfold in parallel the author's painful childhood past, and the infinitely brighter one he is now striving to craft for his grandson. There is a rare emotional honesty in these pages, and a "warts and all" story that is one one part self-help, two parts memoir, and three parts inspirational. Highly recommended!
