Rosa
I need to escape.
After those racist bastards destroyed my home, I can’t face the world again.
I’ve rented a cabin in the heart of the Crookshollow forest. I’m going to lock myself away and work on my book. I’m going to write my story.
And I absolutely, positively WILL NOT think about Caleb, the hunky labourer who’s fixing up my cabin.
No way.
I won’t think about the way his eyes melt my heart, and his smile melts my panties.
I’m too emotionally raw right now. I can’t handle a fling, especially not with a white guy.
Especially not a guy like him. A guy who shags and leaves. I can’t handle any more heartache.

Caleb
Rosa Parker – clever writer, black woman, total hottie.
The connection between us sizzles – there’s no denying it this woman is my mate.
When I’m near her, all I want to do is claim her.
If only I wasn’t the biggest threat to her life right now.
With a rogue wolf pack after my hide, I can’t afford a distraction. Even a distraction as alluring as her.
I need to keep my wolfish instincts in check.

But I can’t help myself.
Rosa Parker has got under my skin.
And I won’t stop until I’ve made her mine.

Love, love, love this novel!! I saw that a few other people were unhappy because of the focus on racism in the book, but to me, that just made it real. If you'd lived through what Rosa had lived through, I think you'd struggle with how to trust someone with a different skin color also.

Steffanie is a really talented author; I've loved all of her books and I can't wait to read more! WRITE FASTER, STEFFANIE!!

Writing the Wolf A wolf shifter paranormal romance Wolves of Crookshollow Book 2 eBook Steffanie Holmes Reviews

Rosa Parker lives in a small town filled with racist white people, who have tormented her, burnt her home with her beloved cat inside. Rosa lost everything in Garsmouth. So she decides to move with the advice of her therapist. Rosa moves for a year to Crookshollow to write, this is where she meets Caleb they feel the intense connection the moment they meet. Rosa does not want to take a chance on another white man. But he's too hot, sexy, fun to resist. His problem now is how he is going to tell Rosa that they are fated mates and he's a werewolf. With Caleb's stepbrothers coming for him, Rosa is now in danger and he will protect her at all cost. The characters are strong, very entertaining and the other shifters I want to know about them and this town as well. Once I started reading I had to finish. Great read.

Rosa is a young black woman who works and lives in the village of Old Garsmouth where all the residents are white. She's subjected to cruel racist remarks  and the final straw was her home being totally destroyed by arsonists. Quitting her job, she finds a far off cabin to rent to in England, near the forest of Crookshollow. There she hopes to write a book, a tale of revenge against all those who have caused her harm.

The first night there she encounters Caleb who at first scares the wits out of her. When their hands meet, Rosa immediately feels and electrical current and Caleb realises that he has found his mate.

Things don't go well for the couple. Caleb's brothers show up in their wolf form, terrorizing Rosa and trying to kidnap her. Caleb has to reveal his werewolf side in order to protect her. So now Rosa is thinking that not only is he a white man but now he's a werewolf too!!! The girl is already prone to severe PANIC attacks as is!

There's a lot going on in this novel, his stepbrothers aren't backing off in their attempts to use Rosa to get Caleb to return to the MacLean pack, she's still receiving threatening messages and Caleb is trying to reestablish the Lowe pack.  Amidst all the dangers that confront this couple, will they ever be able to make it?

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that i received. Great read, lots of action and troubles to get to a HEA!
I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly entertained by this book. I love shifters in every way, so this book fit the bill for me.

SPOILERS

The desire for shifters to be recognized as beings with rights is a little different for me, but it breathes a bit of life into the genre (yes, I know it has been done before). I'm still not sure if I want my shifters recognized by society or to remain my naughty little secret. I'd love to come along for the ride though.

I commend the author for tackling the issue of racism in this book. As a Black American who hasn't experienced such overt racism as Rosa, I was both understanding and confused by some of her actions. The scene in which she invited Caleb into her cabin upon meeting him in the dark had me rearing back, and I'm honestly still confused by it. She meets a guy in the dark, determines that he's hot as hell but also white, alarm bells go off, but she still proceeds to invite him into her cabin to chat for a few hours. A more realistic sequence of events would be meet hot guy in the dark, determine he's white, alarm bells go off, say to hot guy "hey, nice to meet you, maybe I'll see you around", sleep on it, get to know hot guy the next day (maybe). Her eagerness to be so close to him in this scene had me wondering how the rest of the story would unfold.
END SPOILERS

Once I got past that initial hiccup I couldn't put the book down. Barring a couple continuity errors (Caleb takes his shirt off but wasn't wearing a shirt to begin with), I was enthralled. I found Caleb to be sweet, kind, patient, and so Hot! He can totes be my new Book Boyfriend. That he wasn't just another rich, Alpha shifter was very refreshing. I'm excited about this series and author.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Started off good then went south with Rosa’s racial insecurities and not dealing with her being the other woman. I speed read and skipped pages just to finish the damn book. Won’t be buying anymore from this author. Really disappointed reading and I LOVE to read.🙁☹️☹️
I loved the emotional roller coaster, along with the suspense. Even though the booked could have used a bit more editing and there was a minor character description error ( a character from the first book) I still loved the story. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.
Rosa looked around at the dreary rental cabin that Rita was showing her. Her home had burned down and she had lost everything, including a large chunk of her childhood memorabilia. She wanted to get away to an isolated place where she could write her book in peace, and perhaps find some time to heal.

Caleb was a shifter and recognized Rosa as his mate. But he wanted to keep her safe. With other shifters out to cause trouble, he didn’t want to get her involved. Despite their attraction, Rosa also did not want to get into a relationship with anyone. Does Caleb have a chance to change her mind? Or will she walk away from him when she has finished what she came to accomplish?

I didn’t care for this book all that much. I don’t like the way the racism was handled, as I don’t think it did much to advance the story. But I love shifters and was glad that Rosa had someone like that to care for her. I voluntarily read a review copy of this book and my comments reflect my honest opinion.
Love, love, love this novel!! I saw that a few other people were unhappy because of the focus on racism in the book, but to me, that just made it real. If you'd lived through what Rosa had lived through, I think you'd struggle with how to trust someone with a different skin color also.
